A Little Quilt Finds a Home

So often when we donate quilts to charitable groups, we are not really sure what happens to them.  I follow the blog of Cherri House, author of City Quilts.  In March, Cherri posted a call for children's quilts on her blog Cherry House Quilts.  I didn't have anything ready, so it took me a while to get a quilt together.  One month later, I mailed the quilt I blogged about here (http://saltmarshpath.blogspot.com/2011/04/another-finish.html)  to the Early Head Start Program in Baltimore, MD. On Monday, I received a lovely thank you note in the mail.

As a retired nursery school teacher, I was delighted to know that the quilt would be part of the school's "Cozy Corner" In-Home Literacy Project.  Each child is given a quilt and a book to begin an infant/toddler library in their home.  Books are taken to their house throughout the year to encourage a love for reading.  Although I wasn't expecting a thank you for sending the quilt, it was wonderful to hear how the little quilt that traveled hundreds of miles would be used.

  1. I know what you mean Katie - you do things from the heart because it makes you feel good, not to get a pat on the back. So when these little 'thank you's come your way, they are unexpected, welcomed, and loved.

  2. I called my high school Spanish Teacher yesterday: She’s 91, lives alone, still drives and plays bridge. What a treat to hear her voice again. Made my day to thank her for what she had been to me forty years ago. Made hers too.

  3. What a lovely surprise! You're right, we usually don't know what happens to our gifts. (Love the photo on your blog header, makes me want to pull up a deck chair and sip iced tea.)

  4. That was nice! It's not often I have feedback from items that I make and give, but it is nice.
Your quilt was so colorful and cute. I loved it. I'm sure it's bringing a lot of joy to a child.

  5. That is so nice to know that your quilt will be well loved. I sent one to Japan and it was a good feeling to do that. I hope that it will be loved by someone too.
